THOMAS TIGHE O'DONOGHUE 'THISTLES' LTD EDITION 59/75 C. 1980 - $3K APPRAISAL VALUE!
ITEM DESCRIPTION:
Tighe O'Donoghue/Ross (born 1942) is an Irish-American painter, engraver, and sculptor. He is better known as the artist and sculptor who created "An Capall Mór," part of 'The Sculpture Road to Killarney' along the N22 and the stained glass windows in St. Mary's Cathedral in Killarney entitled ‘Dawn and Dusk' dedicated to his ancestors.
Tighe O'Donoghue/Ross is the head of the family known as the O'Donoghues of Ross and is recognized as the hereditary Chief of Loch Lein, a Gaelic title of great antiquity. It is perhaps this personal situation that has influenced his unique vision of timeless nostalgia, yearning for the past while stuck in the unalterable present. His imagery has been described as Magic Realism which, like its relatives Surrealism and Metaphysical Art, some consider a thing of the past. His version, however, celebrates the genre without mimicking it and is based on anachronisms and traditions which create a mindset conducive to the theatre of dream. O'Donoghue/Ross cannot be easily codified, and is neither a magic realist, a symbolist, an expressionist nor a surrealist in the strictest sense, but a bit of all of these. He is adept in all media, from monumental sculpture to etching and engravings, though presently focusing on painting.
Anton Schiffer (born August 18, 1811 in Graz - June 13, 1876 in Vienna) was an Austrian landscape painter. He was a son of the theater painter Franz Joseph Schiffer, who worked in different parts of Austria. After receiving lessons from his father, he studied from 1833 to 1835 with Leopold Kupelwieser at the Vienna Academy. Anton Schiffer was one of the most important and prolific landscape painters of his time in Austria.
