ITEM DESCRIPTION
A vintage piece of sports memorabilia honoring American baseball player, Roy Campanella. This piece is composed by a limited edition signed color photograph of Campanella in full gear about to catch a ball. This item is edition 200/500 and is in overall very good condition, it is signed ‘Roy Campanella’ with a blue ink felt tip pen on the bottom of the print, and is mounted on a 1.5’’ thick laminated wood frame with a engraved metal plate.
Roy Campanella (1921-1993), nicknamed "Campy", was an American baseball player, primarily as a catcher. The Philadelphia native played in the Negro leagues and Mexican League for 9 years before entering the minor leagues in 1946. He made his Major League Baseball (MLB) debut in 1948 for the Brooklyn Dodgers, for whom he played until 1957. His playing career ended when he was paralyzed in an automobile accident in January 1958. He is widely considered to be one of the greatest catchers in the history of the game. After he retired as a player as a result of the accident, Campanella held positions in scouting and community relations with the Dodgers. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1969.
