The final design used by the United States Mint in its coveted Eagle gold series was the $10 Indian Gold Eagle. This image was created in 1907 as a replacement for the long-running Liberty Head Coronet image. Augustus Saint-Gaudens was responsible for this redesign and completed the work at the same time he redesigned the Double Gold Eagle coin. President Theodore Roosevelt commissioned Augustus Saint-Gaudens to submit new designs for various denominations of US gold coins in 1905. He submitted a total of four designs to the US Mint, with the famous Liberty and Indian Head Liberty designs chosen for the Double Gold Eagle and these Gold Eagle coins in 1907.

His images for the Pre-33 $10 Indian Gold Eagle remained stable on the obverse from 1907 to 1933 when gold coining in the US ended, but his reverse design underwent an early change that saw the national motto added to the coins in 1908.

The obverse face of Pre-33 $10 Indian Gold Eagle coins features a left-profile bust of Lady Liberty wearing an indigenous headdress. The headdress includes the coronet with Liberty written on it, 13 stars along the top rocker of the design field, and the date mark at the center-bottom of the rocker.

On the reverse side of Pre-33 $10 Indian Gold Eagle coins, you will find the depiction of an American bald eagle at rest on a sheaf of arrows. The birds wings are at its side as its talons clutch the sheaf of arrows wrapped in an olive branch. 1907 coins have only the nation of issue, E Pluribus Unum, and the denomination included. 1908-1933 coins have the addition of the national motto.

These Pre-33 $10 Indian Gold Eagle coins have a Mint State 61 certification from either the PCGS or NGC. Coins in this condition showcase have a mint luster that may be impaired with noticeable hairlines and a few heavy contact marks in both the primary and secondary focal areas.
