  • Issued a face value of $1 (USD) by the US government.
  • Featuresa Mint State 65 grade from the Professional Coin Grading Service.
  • Struck between 1878 and 1904.

Morgan Silver Dollars were the first $1 silver coins struck by the United States Mint following the end of the Seated Liberty Dollar. That coin program ended as a result of the Coinage Act of 1873, which also brought an end to the free minting of silver in the United States.

Each of the Morgan Silver Dollars in this product listing comes from the original production period of 1878-1904, and does not include coins from the one-year production in 1921. The Mint State 65 grade of these coins means that each has an attractive, high quality luster. There may be a few small, scattered contact marks or as many as two larger marks.

George T. Morgan designed the left-profile portrait of Lady Liberty used on the obverse side of these coins. Morgan was a British citizen who excelled as an engraver by the age of 30, but found no work available at Londons Royal Mint. Morgans design was created during sittings with Anna Willess Williams, the inspiration behind his image of Liberty.

The reverse side features the iconic symbol of the United States. The bald eagle is featured with its wings spread wide, arrows in one talon, and an olive branch in the other. United States of America, In God We Trust, and One Dollar are inscribed on this side as well.

Morgan Silver Dollar coins were struck at the Philadelphia, Carson City, San Francisco, New Orleans, and Denver mint facilities.
