This is an authentic newspaper clipping from Sunday, July 3, 1921 New York Times featuring a photograph of a boxing match between American World Heavyweight Champion Jack Dempsey and French World Light-Heavyweight Champion, Georges Carpentier. This piece is in excellent condition; it is signed ‘Jack Dempsey’ in black ink on the bottom center of the picture, it is professionally framed with black and white double layered mats and an engraved metal plate in a black and golden painted wooden frame. The metal plate reads: “JACK DEMPSEY ‘The Manassa Mauler’ 1985-1983. Became the world heavyweight champion in 1919 by defeating Jess Willard. He won 47 of his fights by KO’s. Dempsey lost his title to Gene Tunney in 1926.”
Jack Dempsey versus Georges Carpentier was a boxing fight between world heavyweight champion Jack Dempsey and world light-heavyweight champion Georges Carpentier, which was one of the fights named the "Fight of the Century". The bout took place in the United States on Saturday, July 2, 1921, at Boyle's Thirty Acres in Jersey City, New Jersey. Less than a minute into the fourth round, Dempsey's relentless pressure resulted in Carpentier being floored with a stinging left-right combination from the champion. the fight ended shortly thereafter, at one minute and 16 seconds of round four, when Dempsey knocked out Carpentier with another combination that included a hard right hook to the body.
