Presented is an esteemed 1823 first edition book titled "Points of Misery or Fables For Mankind" by Charles Molloy Westmacott (c. 1788-1868), a distinguished British journalist and author, notably recognized as the editor of The Age, a prominent Sunday newspaper in the early 1830s. Westmacott occasionally wrote under the pseudonym Bernard Blackmantle and is best known for his work "The English Spy." Notably, due to his connections within the art world, this publication features illustrations by renowned artists of the era, including Robert Cruikshank and Thomas Rowlandson.Illustrations in this volume are attributed to Isaac Robert Cruikshank, also known as Robert Cruikshank (1789-1856), a caricaturist, illustrator, and portrait miniaturist, distinguished as the lesser-known brother of George Cruikshank, both sons of Isaac Cruikshank. Robert Cruikshank holds significance as a pioneer in the history of comics, having created several cartoons that utilize narrative sequence and speech balloons. In the late 1820s, he illustrated a number of notable books, often as sequels to previous successes to which he and his brother George had contributed. Although this book is in poor condition, its age lends it a charming antiqued patina cover, making it a desirable acquisition for historians and bibliophiles alike, showcasing a piece of literary and artistic history from the early 19th century.
