DANIEL CARLETON GAJDUSEK NOBEL PRIZE 1976 UNIQUE PRIVATE PHOTO -$6K APPRAISAL VALUE
ITEM DESCRIPTION:
Extremely rare, beautiful, one-of-a-kind, 7" X 5" private original photograph of D. Carleton Gajdusek that was autographed to a close friend Betty Grossinger. Printed and signed on an original Kodak possibly the only one printed. D. Carleton Gajdusek (Born Sep. 9, 1923, and Died Dec. 12, 2008) was an American physician and medical researcher who was the co-recipient (with Baruch S. Blumberg) of the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1976 for work on the transmissibility of kuru, implying the existence of an infectious agent, which he named an 'unconventional virus'. Reutzfeldt-Jakob disease and related illnesses among people and animals involve the degeneration of brain cells. Carleton Gajdusek studied kuru, a rare disease, among the Fore people of New Guinea. Gadjusek arrived at the conclusion that kuru was spread through the ritualistic eating of deceased relatives. He succeeded in transmitting the infection to chimpanzees in the 1960s. The long period, often several years, between exposure to the infection and contraction of the disease indicated that it involved a previously unknown type of infectious agent. This photograph is possibly the only one out there, and he gave it to a close friend of his, Betty Grossinger, with his compliments signed by him, his name, D. Carlton Gudesek, and it is signed in black marking pen. And it's an exceptionally rare photograph, and to be signed by him is super rare as well.
This is probably one of the rarest pictures of him signed. It's going to come with a FREE $6,000.00 insurance appraisal and a lifetime certificate of authenticity. This photograph is priced at $1,495.00.
