The Washington Quarter was designed in 1932 and introduced into circulation to replace the Standing Liberty Quarter design that had been suspended in 1930. Just the second president to feature on a circulation coin, Washington was the first former president to feature on one of the nations silver coins. The Washington Quarter was the third design on the US Quarter Dollar coin in the 20th century, but it would be the last change to come to the coin even as the dawn of the 21st century has come and gone. The Washington bust debuted in 1932 and followed the Barber Coinage design of Liberty that featured from 1892-1916 and the Standing Liberty Quarter design that graced the coin from 1916-1930.

Please note that we do not guarantee the date marks beyond stating that the date range will include 1932 to 1964, the period in which Washington Quarters were produced with 90% silver content.
On the obverse face of the 90% Silver Washington Quarter is the left-profile bust of President George Washington as designed by John Flanagan. This effigy of Washington was created by Flanagan using a bust of Washington sculpted in 1786 as inspiration. This design was in use from 1932 to 1998, surpassing the end of 90% silver coining in the US. It features inscriptions of Liberty, In God We Trust, and the date mark.
The reverse side of the 90% Silver Washington Quarter was also designed by John Flanagan. Throughout the history of the 90% Silver Washington Quarters, the image featured on this side was that of an American bald eagle facing forward with its wings spread and its head looking to the left. The bird clutches a sheaf of arrows in its talons, with an olive branch wrapped around the sheaf.
