LATE 1800'S FORMAL PORTRAIT OF A LADY WITH GLASSES OIL ON CANVAS- $50K APPRAISAL VALUE!
ITEM DESCRIPTION:
This is a late 19th Century formal portrait of a lady painted with great skill using oil on canvas. With vivid colors and great use of different tonalities, this portrait depicts a middle aged woman most likely from a European upper middle class background; this portrait was most likely commissioned to an artist. The lady is wearing a simple and elegant white, layered dress with scallop sleeves and lace detail on the neckline; on the lower part of the frame we can see her delicately holding a long wool cover in red and beige plaid print. She is also wearing a gold bracelet with gemstones and a gold ring in her right hand and a very delicate pair of reading glasses on her face, which was an unusual feature in paintings of the era, specially in formal portraits. The portrait is framed in a beautiful 31 inches wide, 36 inches high, 3.25 inches thick gilt wood period frame decorated with organic shapes in a late Baroque style. The painting is unsigned and shows slight signs of craquelure.
