Item Description
This is an original uniform made for Johnny "The Bellhop" Morris Jr., for the famously successful "Call for Philip Morris" advertising campaign. Albert (Al) Altieri (1915-2002) who went by the stage name Johnny Morris Jr, was an American midget former hotel bellhop who became a prominent advertisement actor and who was hired for "The Bellhop" role in order to take on some of the promotional events for the original "Bellhop", Johnny Roventini (1910-1998). Al Altieri toured nationally while Roventini was involved in promotion primarily in the New York area. Altieri and "The Bellhop" trademark was wildly successful and Altieri toured with the USO in WWII, was invited to visit the White House and became an honorary page to the US Congress. "The Bellhop" actors were described by Philip Morris personnel as a "living trademarks", and their stint posing as the cigarette brand mascots lead to a 40-year acting career, soon earning $50,000 annually.

Red two-piece suit with gold-plated buttons and black detailing. Campaign slogan, "Call for Philip Morris" is embedded in yellow on the left breast of the jacket. The pants and hat are black with red detail. From pant tags: Union made suit issued by authority of Amalgated Clothing. Manufactured by Brooks Uniform Company in New York City.
