Each 1 oz Proof American Platinum Eagle Coin available to you in this product listing comes with a protective plastic slab and a perfect certification. The NGC issues PF70 grades to coins that exhibit full, original mint luster and no detracting flaws of any kind on the design elements or surface areas.
The included UCAM designation stands for ultra-cameo and refers to the exceptional visual brilliance of the specimens. A UCAM coin showcases strong, frosted designs and deeply-mirrored, clear background fields. All coins in this listing are chosen at random and we cannot guarantee the date mark and corresponding design for the coin you receive. If you purchase multiples, it is possible you will receive several matching dates and designs.
From the introduction of the Proof American Platinum Eagle in 1997, the reverse field of the coin had new designs with each date mark. By in large, the US Mint has issued new designs in varying design programs. For example, from 1998 to 2002 it issued the Vistas of Liberty with new images of the American bald eagle in flight over the country.
On the obverse side of most 1 oz Proof American Platinum Eagle Coins, you will find John Mercantis image of Lady Liberty. This design is based on the Statue of Liberty and shows her stoic face gazing off into the distance. This design was used from 1997 to 2017 and only recently replaced in 2018 with the Preamble to the Declaration of Independence Series when new Liberty portraits feature on the obverse each year.
The reverse side had a new design element every year from 1997 to 2016. In most years, the American bald eagle was the focus of the design, but certain issues featured other symbols of Americana or the federal government. For instance, the Foundations of Democracy program from 2006 to 2008 offered up images representing the three branches of the federal government.
