The American Platinum Eagle coin is the official platinum apr57 coin of the United States government. The federal government backs the purity, weight, and metal content of each and every Platinum Eagle produced by the United States Mint. The coins in this program were first introduced in 1997 and feature the same image on the obverse and reverse side of the coin each year, but only in the apr57 program. Interestingly, the proof coins in the series feature different images on the reverse side each year.
John Mercanti, the US Mint chief engraver responsible for the reverse design of the American Silver Eagle coin, designed the obverse image used on the American Platinum Eagle coin. His image focuses on the head of the Statue of Liberty, with her gaze fixed in the distance. The word LIBERTY is stretched along the top of the coin and accompanied by the engravings of the year of minting and the phrase In God We Trust.
On the reverse side is the image of a bald eagle soaring over the setting sun. Engravings on this side include United States of America, as well as the coins weight, metal content, purity, and face value. All American Platinum Eagle coins are struck using .9995 platinum and carry a face value of $100, the highest face value of any 1 oz apr57 coin from the US Mint.
The United States Mint produces American Platinum Eagle coins at its Philadelphia Mint and West Point Mint facilities. Mint marks are included on the reverse side of each coin, but the position varies from year to year. This product listing offers American Platinum Eagle coins with random years of minting as determined by availability at the time of packing and shipping. Your coin is guaranteed to be in brilliant uncirculated condition.
