The 1804 Dollar coin from the United States Mint is a curious piece of American coining history. Though the coins were produced with an 1804 date mark, almost all of the available specimens that were given out were actually produced beginning in the 1830s, with a few samples struck even later than that. The original purpose of the coins was for use in a diplomatic mission as gifts to foreign dignitaries.
