The photograph was taken right after he married world-famous Hollywood actress and sex symbol Marilyn Monroe in 1954. DiMaggio is uniquely captured smoking a cigarette despite his reputation for hiding his smoking habit. The two of them were considered one of the most iconic couples of their time as they were the faces of the sports and entertainment industries. Monroe died at a very young age which sparked immense controversy amongst many. In her lifetime she allegedly had many affairs with figures such as President John F. Kennedy and Frank Sinatra.
