ITEM DESCRIPTION:
This is an original limited edition silver gelatin print of a portrait of iconic American actress, Marilyn Monroe. Barris, who originally met with Monroe to do a Cosmopolitan story about the final film for which she was hired, "Something’s Gotta Give". Barris became a confidant of sorts in the final weeks of her life. This specific photograph was shot during the summer of 1962 with at Monroe’s home in Brentwood, He caught her in the later and rocky part of her career, at 36 years old. This specific print was part of famous American photographer Edward Weston’s private collection and it portrays the actress leaning on a chair on her private bar. It is in excellent condition, signed “George Barris” in black ink on the bottom right corner, numbered 75/99 in black ink on the back over copyright seal, and framed with a tan mat in a black aluminum frame.
George Barris (1922 - 2016) was an American photographer and photojournalist best known for his photographs of actress Marilyn Monroe. He photographed many stars of the 1950s and 1960s, including Elizabeth Taylor on the set of Cleopatra, Marlon Brando, Charlie Chaplin, Frank Sinatra, Clark Gable and Steve McQueen. Barris is perhaps best known for his work with Marilyn Monroe, whom he photographed in 1954 on the set of The Seven Year Itch, and in 1962 at Santa Monica beach, and in the Hollywood Hills in a series that became known as "The Last Photos." Barris was collaborating on a book titled Marilyn: Her Life In Her Own Words at the time of her death. Barris is well known for taking the last photo of Monroe on July 13, 1962.
