Item Description
Signed January 13th of 1839 - an exquisite piece of American history! This is a letter of correspondence from a lover. A very heartfelt, sentimental letter. The writer reveals he misses this woman's presence and that she will forever be in his memory. He describes his 21 day journey and reassures his love of his faith in the Divine Providence. In traditional theism, the belief holds that God is the creator of heaven and earth. It is truly amazing to have such a small piece of history in your hands!

 New Orleans Jan 13th 1839
Dear Rosilla, I take this opportunity of informing you of our safe arrival home. We had a passage of 21 days to the (...) which was mostly unpleasant weather. My health is good at present while you I hope are enjoying the same favour I am. I left you with more reluctance than I did the last time and fronted indeed it was hand written*. I am deprived of your company which cannot be equaled only by* your presence many times on our passage. If I could have been near that stove I should have been the happiest of the happy but I have exchanged a cold dreary white winter for a warm and pleasant climate. I shall not leave the brig yet as times is very dull and likely we shall spend the winter here. The school* Lane Wells has arrived after 30 days passage. Dear love you are ever present in any memory and if is with blessing hopes that I view the time that we shall meet again but be as it may I wish to feel reconciled to all the events of Divine Providence for he who is the preserver of all, and the giver of every good gift knows what is best for us and now you must except this from your friend and all his good wishes may all the blessings of life attend you may peace and tranquility abound among you may crown you with all her beauties.
