LEE ANDREW MAY JR. 1986 ORIGINAL SIGNED MLB TOPPS BASEBALL CARD CONTRACT - $3K APPRAISAL VALUE!
ITEM DESCRIPTION:
A one of a kind, unique and original contract signed by Major League Baseball (MLB) player, Lee Andrew May Jr., granting the Topps Company (Topps Chewing Gum, Incorporated) permission to use and license his image in promoting their baseball card from 1986.
It's difficult to believe this player, just about 35 years ago, accepted $5 on the spot, with a $250 annual payment for as long as he's an active member and player of Major League Baseball and an additional $75 for extending the contract an additional two years, for the licensing of his image. His father's reputation often preceded his own, Lee May Sr. played 18 seasons for the Reds, Astros, Orioles, and the Royals, adorned with the nickname, "Big Bopper", he had at least 20 home runs, 80 RBIs and 11 straight seasons. He is only one of eleven Major League players to have 100 RBI seasons for three different teams. He was a three time All-Star and an American League champion in 1976, he appeared in the post-season three times including the 1970 World Series for the Reds, the 1979 season for the Orioles, and the 1971 post-season for the Royals. He was a hitting coach with many teams after that and he was inducted in the Hall of Fame, he was a great great player. The document we have is a very rare MLB Topps Card contract of his son, Lee May Jr., and what's unusual about this is, although he never evolved to be as great as his father, he was drafted in 1986 by the New York Mets and we believe in anticipation of him making the team, Topps signed him to a contract for a Topps baseball card and payed him money to represent himself in his image, but he never made the team. This is likely one of the only contracts around that's signed by somebody who never made an MLB team and didn't end up having a card made in his honor. This is a very unusual, rare, and historic piece of memorabilia, if you are a Lee May Sr. fan, and you want something great to honor his memory, this would serve as an amazing piece. Although he never played in the Major League, he played around 8 or 9 years with the Mets minor league farm system.
