IRA GERSHWIN LETTER TO IRVING DRUTMAN C. 1945 - $10,000 APPRAISAL VALUE!
ITEM DESCRIPTION:
This is a letter from Ira Gershwin to his confidant/colleague Irving Drutman The content is very colloquial in nature; Gershwin asks Drutman about events going on in his life as well as discloses information about his own personal life. The letter is in excellent condition with all of the writing legible and no damages to the paper.
Ira Gershwin was an American lyricist who collaborated with his younger brother, composer George Gershwin, to create some of the most memorable songs in the English language of the 20th century. He was a recipient of the 1932 Pulitzer Prize for Drama for “Of Thee I Sing” and three of his songs were nominated for an Academy Award.
The letter reads as follows:
May 3, 1945
Dear Irving [Irving Drutman],
Many thanks for the stationary. I’ll see that Kober [Arthur Kober] gets his share.
Lee [Lee Gershwin] and I are both in the pink. The weather’s been agreeable and we’re almost as brown as the Bery Brothers. Can’t break 100 yet, though, on the golf course.
Heard Levant [Oscar Levant] on the Hildegard program. Thought he was quite funny. See where he’s been signed by W.B. [Warner Brothers] Any special picture or doesn't he know?
Saw “Where Do We Go From Here” very good. Think you will like especially “the Nina the Pinta the Santa Maria” sequence.
I hope you get that showing of “Rhapsody in Blue” for my family. Jerry Kern was over last Sunday to tell me, among other things, that he had seen the picture. He told me that he and his wife were greatly affected.
I have no plans at the moment except to try to break 100.
I liked your “Tribune” piece.
How’s your foot?
How’s your painting?
Lee joins me in sending you the best. And give our best to Oscar and June [June Levant] when you see them.
Ira
