My dear Merv-
I was 80 on the calendar May 17, but still feel seventeen. Your wonderful Irving Berlin Program was sparkling and it brought back many fond memories. I attend a party Irving’s home in the twenties with Jeanne Eagles, also Clifton + Maybelle Webb. Irving was composing “all alone” at the time and he played it for us. Those were the days! I was inspired to write the enclosed lyrics while _ was playing. I feel the time has come to step this up off about old-age, so here is a modern version of “Silver Threads Among The Gold”. My lovely composer called it a day several years ago when the Rock and Roll took on the record industries so I have no one I can contact to write the music for these lyrics. If you know any composer whom you think would like to veto take a long-shot and share this song with me I would welcome your advice. I would also be most grateful in your expert opinion of these lyrics. It would be mighty helpful to me. Needless to say you are a wonder to behold and like meditation helps to cool the agitation of the sympathetic system in which many of us has to day.
Blessings on thee

There’s Only Now My Darling
There’s only now, my darling
You never shall grow old
There are no years, my darling
No age that can unfold
You’re always young my darling
The best is yet to be
For there is only one life
That life is infinity
Let not your heart be weary
Let go of every fear
There’s nothing oh, my darling
That’s worth a single tear
So when the silver scatters
Among the strands of gold
Forget about your birthdays
Left that you’ve been told
There’s only now my darling
You never shall grow old
