ORIGINAL SPANISH CONQUISTADOR BRONZE MORION HELMET CIRCA 1500S - $30K APR W COA! 

ITEM DESCRIPTION:


    This authentic Spanish morion artifact hails from the 16th century, originally from the Kingdom of Castile.  The cabasset is casted bronze weighing approx. 45 oz.  The helmet's dimensions are 11.5 inches tall, 14 inches long and 9.5 inches wide with a bowl shape.  Helmet is in exquisite condition with exception of minor damage to crown and rivets at the base of the artifact.  It has a simple surface with an upswept front and rear peak.  Front peak appears to have been repaired.  It is not mounted.  No straps inside the helmet.

 

Spanish morion helmets were in use after the conquests of Mexico by Hernan Cortes and of the Incas by Pizarro.  Explorers like Hernando de Soto and Coronado supplied them to foot mercenaries in the 1540's for protection in open-faced combat. They were used until the 17th century (1600's) all over Europe in various styles, frequently casted in bronze or steel.
