African Bronze Bwaba Burkina Faso Chameleon Amulet - $4K APR w/CoA
Here we have an antique African bronze Bwaba amulet from Burkina Faso, crafted in the form of a chameleon—a revered symbol of protection in Bwaba culture. The chameleon holds a special place in African traditions, admired for its intelligence, ability to camouflage in its surroundings, and its unique vision, which encompasses nearly 360 degrees. As a symbol, it is believed to shield its wearer from illness and misfortune. Smaller examples of brass chameleons are often gifted to children at a young age to serve as protective charms. This amulet was cast using the ancient lost-wax method, a labor-intensive process in which a model is hand-shaped in beeswax, encased in clay, and fired. During the firing process, the wax melts away, and molten bronze is poured into the cavity left behind. Once cooled, the clay mold is broken, ensuring that each piece is entirely unique and one of a kind. The amulet features intricate adornment on one side, showcasing the skill and artistry of its maker. It measures approximately 3 inches wide by 2 inches high, with a weight of about 1.5 ounces.
