ITEM DESCRIPTION
This is an original 1920s vintage Tiffany Studios vase. This beautiful vase has a gilt bronze base with organic motifs and a detachable trumpet-shaped glass body. The glass has a beautiful light gold color with an iridescent coating that gives this delicate piece subtle green and blue accents. The glass piece is signed ‘L.C.T Favrile’ in the narrow end and the gilt bronze support is signed ‘Louis C. Tiffany Furnaces Inc. 158’ and marked with the Louis Tiffany Furnaces Inc. Official emblem on the bottom. Both pieces are in excellent condition having a beautiful patina that accentuates the the way in which light falls on its beautiful organic shapes.
Tiffany Studios was a glassmaking company established by Louis Comfort Tiffany in 1885. The studio created multi-colored, textured, opalescent stained glass, primarily used for windows and lamps. In 1893, Tiffany Glass Furnaces was built in Queens, NY, creating a type of blown glass, called Favrile. This glass was used in the construction of all Tiffany Studios designs. In 1894, the company trademarked Favrile to prevent other studios from copying the design. Clara Driscoll was the designer that created each of the designs for Tiffany lamps, though it was originally thought that Louis Comfort Tiffany created the designs himself.
