Today at APR57, we have this unique collection of miniature Korean masks. This is a beautiful decorative set of miniature Korean masks in "The Mask Play of Hahoe Byeolsin Exorcism - Important Intangible Cultural Asset No. 69". Characters include Yangban Tal, Sonbi Tal, Bune Tal, Chorangi Tal, Kagsi Tal, Jung Tal, and Imae Tal. The masks are beautifully crafted and hand-painted with camel, black, and red tones. This beautiful piece is professionally framed with a 1.5’’ deep walnut wood shadowbox. Each mask has a small footnote with its character’s name both in English and Korean. This piece is preowned but is in excellent condition and ready to be framed.
The masked play of Hahoe Byeolsin Exorcism itself was classified as an important intangible cultural asset #69 by the South Korean government on November 17, 1980. Hahoe and Byeolsin masks themselves were also labeled South Korean national treasure #121 at the same time. The Hahoe mask dance is one of the folk dramas of Pungcheon Hahoe village in Andong city and dates from the Goryeo Dynasty.
