About the Artist:
Petrus Gerardus Vertin (1819-1893) was a Dutch nineteenth-century etcher, lithographer, painter, and watercolorist. Vertin lived in The Hague and his works are displayed in several Dutch museums, including the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, the Gemeentemuseum in The Hague, and the Centraal Museum of Utrecht. He was part of the movement known as The Hague Romanticists. Vertin's art focused on the beauty of the landscape, architecture, and atmosphere of the town. His works feature the people, streets, town squares, bridges, and canals of The Hague.
Item Description:
This piece is a beautifully varnished lithograph print of one of Vertin's paintings of the city of Utrecht in the Netherlands. This lithograph has been laid down on a panel and is heavily varnished with skills to mimic the texture of the oil paintings. This townscape is the Dutch town of Utrecht, and the grand Dom Tower can be seen in the background of the setting. the foreground shows a busy town scene by a canal filled with people and buildings. This print was most likely made in the 1950s or 60s. The painting is neither dated by Vertin nor by the person who assembled the piece. Vertin's facsimile signature is present in the lower-left corner. The print is professionally framed in a magnificent golden wood frame. The frame has late baroque motifs carved into the wood.
